Group Bio

The Berofsky Piano Quartet seeks to bring staples of the piano quartet repertoire, as well as lesser-heard works deserving of more attention, to audiences across the country. The ensemble consists of Aaron Berofsky (violin) and Kathryn Votapek (viola), professors of music at the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre and Dance in Ann Arbor, Michigan, along with their sons, Sebastian Berofsky (cello) and Charles Berofsky (piano). Both Charles and Sebastian are currently studying at The Juilliard School in New York; Aaron and Kathryn met at the same institution decades earlier.

The family started curating programs together during the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, and since has performed across various venues in southeastern Michigan, New York, and the Washington, D.C. area.
